Cooking With
Mangi
A wooden spoon, a beat-up Cinquecento,
and the world’s most opinionated
kitchen utensils. It’s dinnertime.
From the Rose Bowl to Food Network
Once a tiny wooden spoon who just wanted to mix baby food — bananas, mostly — Mangi had a rough ride. Tossed in a box, strung up on a hook at the Rose Bowl flea market for years, swinging in the wind while the world walked by.
Then Antonio came along. And everything changed. Together they hit the road in a beat-up Fiat Cinquecento, cooking up the most outrageously good budget meals you’ve ever tasted — all narrated with Mangi’s signature blend of sass and heart.
Now they’ve got a show. A real one. A band. An audience. And a crew of kitchen utensils that might just be the most colorful cast on television.

MAIN CHARACTERS
THE CAST
Meet the Gang
From the Food Network
Wooden spoon. Big heart. Even bigger opinions. Hates cities, loves bananas, and narrates everything with legendary flair.
GRATEYThe Grouch
Grandpa of the group. Lives in a garbage can. Always grumpy, always smelly. Basically Oscar the Grouch with cheese stuck in his holes.
SPATULERETTE The Showgirl
She had dreams of Vegas. Feathers, sequins, the whole deal. Ended up in Antonio’s kitchen, but she still performs like it’s opening night.
Huevos Rancheros Under $5
The Whole Spread
*Compliments of El Pollo Loco and the street vendor. Don't judge me." — Mangi
Build Your Arsenal
"Assemble your ingredients like you're about to enter a cooking duel: tortillas, eggs, tomatoes, onion, garlic, jalapeño — don't be a baby — and the fancy crumbly cheese."
Make the Ranchero Sauce
Sauté onion 3 min, add garlic + jalapeño. If you rub your eyes now, that's on you. Add tomatoes, simmer 10–15 min. Finish with cilantro.
Warm the Beans
"Mash them a bit or leave them whole so they can show off their legume pride. Season so they don't taste like sadness."
Crisp the Tortillas
Fry 30 seconds per side. "Crispy but not shatter-your-teeth crispy." Drain on paper towels. You're fancy now.
Fry Eggs Sunny-Side Up
"Salt and pepper them so they know they're loved." Break the yolk? Pretend you meant to.
Stack & Serve
Tortilla → beans → egg → sauce → crumbled cheese → cilantro → avocado. Eat immediately, before someone else does.
